Authorities in the US have launched an investigation after a woman in a coma for over 10 years, has reportedly given birth.
According to The Hill, a sexual assault investigation has been launched in the state of Arizona, after the woman gave birth despite being in a vegetative state for 14 years.
It is understood that investigators are trying to determine the identity of the baby’s father after it was born at the Hacienda HealthCare in Phoenix, on December 29th.
The woman who has not been identified was left in a coma after nearly drowning 14 years ago.
Reports say that the woman who requires round the clock care gave birth after doctors noticed her groaning in pain.
Although initially they were baffled as to why she was in so much pain, but were left shocked to discover that she was in fact pregnant and had gone into labour.
Police say they are currently questioning staff at the facility and an investigation is currently ongoing.
They added that the baby is good health, whilst the woman is continuing to receive around the clock care whilst her room is under strict security.
