Harris says he will not allow National Children’s Hospital project to be stopped despite spiralling costs

The Minster for Health Simon Harris has warned that the building of the new National Children’s Hospital will not be halted despite growing concerns in regards to spiralling costs.

Harris who was speaking on RTE’s Today with Sean O’Rourke programme, said he will not allow construction of the project to be jeopardised as its completion is significantly important.

Although the Health Miniser admitted that those responsible for the increased costs must be held accountable, he did state that he will hold himself accountable politically for the overall cost of the project.

However he did stress that a review is needed to find those who were in charge of the project and responsible for the high costs involved.

Minister Harris said that the overall cost was unacceptable and those responsible will be held accountable as the public deserve an explanation as to why costs were so high.

Harris also confirmed that a PWC review will highlight the key areas of the overall spend and who spemt, but those who are responsible cannot be sanctioned by the recview board.

He added that it would be up to the Government to sanction those responsible.
