A 17-year-old boy’s body was recovered from the River Barrow by garda divers around 11pm after a search, following an incident where he struggled while swimming.
The teen was swimming with a friend in the Milford area, about 8km from Carlow town, around 6:30pm when he encountered difficulties due to strong currents.
His friend attempted a rescue but also struggled before reaching safety and alerting authorities.
The scene remains sealed off by gardaÃ.
Locals say that the community is devastated.
