A sergeant in his 40’s has died following a shot with an official issue handgun at Ballyshannon garda station where he was worked.
The garda is said to have died from his injuries in the early hours of the morning. His name has not been released to the public, but it is understood his is married with three children.
The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has launched an investigation into the incident.
Sources say it was “a shooting incident but we believe it was an accident and that the gun was being removed from a storage room”.
The family, colleagues, and friends of the garda are said to be heartbroken and very distraught.
