The ship took part in a wider rescue operation 60 km north of Lybia this morning. Italian, German, and British ships were also involved.
Men, women, and children were taken onboard the rescue ships as the migrants attempted the perilous crossing using makeshift inflatable vessels.
The LÉ Eithne departed from Cork about two weeks ago to participate in rescue efforts around the Mediterranean sea, where a large number of migrants has been lost in recent months.
