A hard border back in Ireland? TWO customs checks proposed either side of the Irish border as a backstop alternative

It’s look more likely day by day that there could well be a new ‘border’ on the island of Ireland thanks to Leo Varadkar and EU.

In what can only be described as a nightmare scenario for Ireland, the UK has proposed the installation of two customs checks along both sides of the Irish border as a backstop alternative.

According to RTE, the controversial proposals have been sent from London to the European Union for consideration.

It means that there would effectively be two ‘border’ checks about 10 miles away from each other – you’d have to drive through one leaving the Republic and through another entering the North.

The amount of hassle, economic disadvantages, threat to peace and normality would be inconceivable.
