A major concern: New report discovers that vunerable foster children are being placed in the care of people who have NOT been properly vetted

There is widespread concern amongst children’s advocacy groups this morning after a new report has found that a number of children placed in foster care are being cared for by adults who have not been properly vetted by the Gardaí.

According to the report which was carried out by the Health Information and Quality Authority the issue was just one of a number of failings by Tusla services in Cork.

The somewhat damning report also found that a number of children are still being placed in the care of foster parents even though there is an ongoing concern.

The latest findings has led to a number of children’s advocacy groups to call the Government and the Minister for Children Katherine Zaponne to conduct further reviews into child services across the country.

Speaking about the issue a spokesperson for one leading children’s advocacy group has said the latest findings ‘is a great cause for concern’ given that vulnerable children are being placed in the hands of people who have not had the appropriate background checks.

The spokesperson added: “These particular children deserve the proper support available as they are being placed in homes with people they don’t fully trust, therefore they need to be raised in an environment that is completely safe.”
