A number of airlines issue flying bans over Iranian and Iraqi airspace amidst fears of military escalation

A number of airlines have issued flying bans over Iranian and Iraqi airspace, amidst heightened tensions in the region.

Qantas, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Airlines are amongst those issuing bans with immediate effect.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also issued an immediate ban to all American pilots and carriers, preventing them from flying over certain areas of Iraq, Iran, and Persian Gulf airspace.

There are growing fears of military conflict in the region in the aftermath of the killing of Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani by an American drone on Friday last.
