Abortion after six weeks banned in State of Florida with women wanting an abortion after this time having to show proof of rape or incest

Women in Florida who are seeking to end the life of their unborn baby will have to show proof that the child was conceived in rape or incest if they are past six weeks gestation following Governor Ron DeSantis’ signing a bill banning abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy.

When a woman schedules an abortion, she must provide a copy of a restraining order, police report, medical record or other court order or documentation proving her victim status.

Media in the U.S has reported that some other restrictions emplaced against abortion in the Sunshine State include with the signing into law of the new bill include two doctors having to certify in writing that an abortion is necessary to save the woman’s life or avert a serious risk health risk. This does not include mental health aspects of a woman’s life.

Abortions are allowed if the pregnancy has not progressed to the third trimester and two doctors certify in writing that the foetus has a fatal foetal abnormality but abortion pills must be disbursed in person by physicians, prohibiting abortions over telehealth visits and prohibiting the delivery of abortion pills by mail.

In June of 2022 the United States Supreme Court overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling which ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s “liberty” to have an abortion. Following this many Republican controlled states have moved to further restrict the ending of unborn babies lives.

Florida, where Republicans control both the State Senate and House of Representatives, with its popular, populist Governor Ron DeSantis, have led the way in recent years in passing conservative legislation.
