Activists hold protest outside Department of Justice in solidarity against migrant direct provision centres

Ordinary decent concerned citizens held a peaceful protest outside the Department of Justice last night to show their solidarity with the good people of Achil, Co Galway, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim and other sites where migrant direct provisions centres have been proposed to house untold number of migrants in awful housing conditions. It’s just not fair on the migrants to live in these conditions.

Signs read “System failure”, “Achill Island Community Not Compound”, and “We Won’t Give Up” were held up in an effort for Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan to get the message that the decent people of Ireland won’t back down on this issue.

It follows on after a very big win for the decent residents of Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim who played their part to ensure that migrants aren’t subjected to awful conditions proposed for the town.

It’s understood that plans for an enormous migrant centre in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim has been put on hold by the Department of Justice RTE reports.

The citizens of Ballinamore rallied to oppose plans by the government to establish a Direct Provision Centre in their town, as part of the EU’s migrant distribution scheme, and like their fellow Irishmen and women in Rooskey and Oughterard they have emerged victorious, now it’s Achill’s turn.
