It is understood that the board of management at Aer Lingus will fully recommend its shareholders to accept the latest takeover deal.

In a statement released today, the Aer Lingus board expressed its willingness to recommend the proposed deal, assuming that IAG addrsses ‘the interests of relevant parties involved.’

Such parties include major shareholders in Ryanair and the Irish state, as well as employees and their representing unions.

The Minister for Transport will brief Cabinet ministers on the matter this morning.

The latest deal offers €2.55 per share, which would put a value of about €1.3bn to the company.

This is the proposal in principle, but no formal offer has been made.
