Aer Lingus cancels another 80 flights planned for next week amid pilot pay row

Due Irish pilots’ industrial action, Aer Lingus has announced 80 further flight cancellations from Thursday, July 11 to Sunday, July 14, reports RTE.

According to the airline, affected passengers will be informed on refund and rebooking alternatives, and the cancellations will allow it to preserve as many services as possible.

The Aer Lingus website’s ‘Travel Advisory’ page has information on the affected services.

Aer Lingus said on Wednesday that 76 flights will be cancelled between Monday and Wednesday of next week, reports RTE.

This followed 392 cancellations brought on by a strike that occurred last Saturday and a work-to-rule that has been in place since last Wednesday.

The Labour Court convened a hearing on Wednesday with the goal of resolving the continuing pilots’ wage dispute. Both parties are now awaiting the court’s recommendation.

At the conference, Aer Lingus and the Irish Airline Pilots Association (IALPA) sent representatives to present their positions and respond to court inquiries, reports RTE.

After spending more than eight hours in meetings with both parties on Monday, the Labour Court notified them that it would use the Industrial Relations Act’s power to interfere in the dispute.

The present work-to-rule strategy by IALPA members is being maintained notwithstanding the Labour Court’s request that there be no escalation of the issue.

Members of IALPA, including Aer Lingus pilots, participated in an eight-hour strike on Saturday.

In order to account for inflation since their previous pay raise in 2019, the pilots are requesting a salary increase of up to 24%, reports RTE.
