An Afghan refugee has appeared in court in England charged with attempted murder after he randomly attacked people with a knife in South London because they were English.

The asylum seeker who attacked random members of the public was reportedly “fuelled” by a desire to murder English people.

Samiulahaq Akbari (32) was captured on CCTV footage attacking a random member of the public in a Tesco store in Thornton Heath after aggressively asking them their nationality.

Akbari first approached Nicholas Speight, tapping him on the shoulder, and asking him his nationality. After Mr Speight confirmed he was British, Akbari started swinging at him with the ten-inch blade.

Mr Speight managed to escape the unhinged attack without injury. Akbari left the shop and attempted to stab two others after demanding to know their nationality before he was apprehended by police.

The court heard transcripts of a panicked 999 call in which the migrant’s cousin told the emergency operator that Akbari he wants to “kill English people” and that he is serious in his intentions.

The trial continues.
