Aldi shoppers are being advised to check their cupboards after an urgent recall was issued for a popular budget product sold nationwide.
The supermarket has withdrawn a specific batch of its low-cost health item over concerns it may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause severe stomach illness, reports The Mirror.
The recall, issued yesterday, affects The Foodie Market Milled Chia Seeds in 200g packs, priced at €1.49. The affected batch carries the barcode 4088600287010 and a best before date of the end of February 2027.
All impacted items have been removed from sale, and recall notices will be displayed at points of purchase. Customers are strongly advised not to consume the batch and can return it to any Aldi store for a full refund, reports The Mirror.
Health experts warn that eating this batch could cause food poisoning. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “The above batch of The Foodie Market Milled Chia Seeds is being recalled due to the possible presence of Salmonella. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in Aldi stores,
“People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps,
“The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness,
“Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch,” reports The Mirror.
Aldi Ireland confirmed the recall applies to stores nationwide and apologised for the inconvenience.
A spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, we are recalling The Foodie Market Milled Chia Seeds due to the possible presence of Salmonella. We have removed this product from sale in all stores and are recalling all affected products. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation,
