38-year-old John English, one of Ireland’s most feared serial sex offenders, is this evening walking free around the streets of his native Cork, after being released from prison.
English had been recalled into jail earlier this year for violating the terms of his release conditions on an 18-year-long sentence for the rape of an Australian woman he met in a pub in Cork City in 2002.
He had been sentenced at the age of 26. At that time, the serial rapist had already ammassed 27 previous convictions (four of them relating to attacks on females), the first one dating back when he was just 15.
The man is tonight walking among the people of Cork. He was previously described by Mr Justice Barry White as “a danger and a menace to society” and “a serious threat to the women of Cork”.
