Amazing: First ever Golden Eagle chick born in Ireland

A majestic bird in movies, the Golden Eagle is one of the world’s most beautiful birds. Now, we have our very own chick in Ireland as our first ever has been born in Louth.

The chick, whose sex is not yet known, is just over 2 weeks old. The beautiful baby bird was bred using artificial insemination by Brian McCann who owns the Newgrange Falconry, in county Louth.

It’s hoped it will help to re-introduce birds of prey and create populations living in Ireland.

Mr McCann says they’ve been trying breed from the parent Golden Eagles for a number of years. This is the first successful breeding of the species in captivity in Ireland.
