Ambassador says she is ‘looking forward’ to Palestine flag flying over Leinster House

The envoy of Palestine to Ireland expressed her excitement at Tuesday’s flag-raising ceremony above Leinster House, reports Breaking News.

Following months of diplomatic efforts by Irish authorities, Ireland, along with Spain and Norway, has formally recognised the state of Palestine.

Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid described the announcement made by Taoiseach Simon Harris that Ireland will recognise the state of Palestine as “a very special day.”

She said: “I know that with all that’s going on with Palestine and against the Palestinian people, we felt it’s a light out of this dark tunnel. It gives hope. I’m really proud of being a representative of the Palestinian people here in Ireland,” reports Breaking News.

But she said the feeling is bittersweet: “It’s not easy to feel this happiness while thousands of people are killed on a daily basis and Israel is becoming even more vicious,” reports Breaking News.

As part of the relocation, the Palestinian Mission in Ireland will be raised to an embassy, and Palestine will designate an ambassador to Ireland.

Additionally, Ireland will rename the Irish Representative to Palestine the Ambassador of Ireland to the State of Palestine and upgrade its Representative Office of Ireland in Ramallah to an embassy, reports Breaking News.
