The Right2Water movement will receive overseas support from American allies next Wednesday.

A number of activists from the Detroit Water Brigade will join Right2Water on the streets of Dublin for the planned demonstration against water charges at the Dáil.

In their hometown and elsewhere, the group is known for lending a helping hand to those families who are at risk of having their water supply shut off.

Justin Wedes, a spokesman for the group, said: “You just can’t rely upon what they say. The same thing happened in Michigan, we were told that they would follow their rules, go by the protocols, shut-offs would be done only in extreme situations, they would make arrangements and considerations for low-income people.”

Wednesday’s demonstration will coincide with Human Rights Day.
