American Airlines has announced today the cancellation of all flights involving the controversial Boeing 737 MAX 8 model until August.
The airline had originally cancelled all flights involving the aircraft until June, but the decision has now been taken to extend that ban due to the uncertainty surrounding the model.
The move effectively means that 115 flights per day will be cancelled until at least August 19. This roughly equals to 1.5% of the airline’s total flight schedule.
Two Boeing 737 MAX 8 have crashed in similar circumstances over the last six months, killing all on board. The manufacturer is said to be working on a solution to prevent further accidents.
