American tourist Stephen Termini spoke his first words after waking up from a coma in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, reports The Mirror.

The 57-year-old from Buffalo, New York, is slowly improving each day, his son said.

Mr Termini was seriously injured in an attack on Talbot Street in the city center on July 19.

His son Mike told the Irish Sunday Mirror that their father had a long way to go to make a full recovery but was now speaking out.

He said: “He’s been making progress, it still looks like it’s going to take some time for him to fully recover. He can’t really speak in sentences yet, he’s still out of it a little bit,” reports The Mirror.

“I’ve been [hearing more] about attacks in the city centre since I’ve been here, it’s crazy,” reports The Mirror.

Following the attack, Justice Minister Helen McEntee announced an additional €10 million for the Gardaí in the Dublin region.

Three teenagers, aged 14, 15 and 16, have appeared in a Dublin court charged with assaulting Mr Termini.
