The internet almost ground to a halt last week after a rumor emerged about a predicted shortage of Prosecco over the summer.
As the story went, recent adverse conditions in the Italian regions where the Glera grapes are grown meant that output would be severely curtailed, pushing up prices and depriving Prosecco lovers of their prized stuff.
But as it turns out, such rumours were quite unfounded. Although demand has increased, and whether or not there will be enough supplies to meet such demand remains unclear, the term “shortage” was a bit strong.
So everyone breathe easily once again.
