Anti-racism group demonstrate petrol station where black man was tasered in front of his son, claiming it wouldn’t have happened if he was white

Anti-racism protesters demonstrated outside a BP garage where police fired a taser gun at a man in front of his frightened boy. A group of 15 people using social distance, protested at the petrol station at Stretford Service Station, Manchester. Images circulated during the week that showed the boy screaming “Daddy” when his father falls head first to the ground and police grapple with him.

Activists questioned whether the response from the Greater Manchester police was proportionate and whether Desmond Ziggy Mombeyarara, 34, would have been treated differently if he had been white.

They also expressed concern that BAME people could become targets after police have gained more powers to enforce Covid’s 19 prohibition rules.
