At the recent Irish National Teachers Union (INTO) conference held lest month, a motion was overwhelmingly passed by INTO delegates to promote values of diversity, inclusion, and equality. The INTO represents teachers who are responsible for teaching children aged 4-12 years old.
Trade union delegates also called on INTO to set up a taskforce to actively promote diversity and inclusion in Irish classrooms.
According to the Irish Examiner, INTO president Joe McKeown commented that homophobia “can never be allowed to hide behind a religious or cultural cloak”.
Speaking at the INTO conference last month the INTO President said; “In terms of this issue, I don’t care who currently owns the schools, the minister for education needs to make it clear, if you’re homophobic, you’re not allowed to run a school.”
The motion comes just days after the state of Florida banned LGBT indoctrination for 5-8 yr old children on the grounds of child protection.
