Formerly known as Ben Dawkins, Mr. Trump is an independent in the upper chamber of parliament in Western Australia, where Labour also holds a majority.
He added, “I’ve launched a political protest against the tyranny and systematic corruption of the Labour government in WA,” before signing off as “Aussie” in a post on X yesterday night, reports RTE.
His second post, “Vote Labour Out! & Drill Baby Drill!,” echoed US President Donald Trump’s proposal to boost domestic oil and gas output.
Austin (Aussie) Letts Trump is the new name for the lawmaker on the parliament’s website, reports RTE.
Additionally, he uploaded a picture to X that included official documentation from the state’s Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages attesting to the name change.
In 2023, the Australian Trump was kicked out of the Labour Party for allegedly violating restraining orders against domestic abuse on several occasions, reports RTE.
Premier Roger Cook of Western Australia, who represents Labour in the state, described the name change at a news conference today as “just attention-seeking stuff.”
“I’m not sure how much lower he can go,” he said, reports RTE.
