According to her relatives, a girl who suffered severe injuries in a knife assault in Dublin’s Parnell Square has “stood up for the first time” since the event, reports Breaking News.

The girl’s family posted an update on a GoFundMe page, stating that the girl’s growth has been “great.”

The November 23, 2023, attack at Parnell Square East also injured a creche worker and two other children, reports Breaking News.

After suffering severe injuries, the girl—who is now six years old but was only five at the time—spent several weeks in paediatric critical care.

Before going home, she stayed in the hospital for about 370 days, reports Breaking News.

She was said to be “thriving” earlier this month.

In an update on Saturday, the family said: “We have been home since the end of November, and the progress has been great. Yesterday was a major day: our little girl stood up for the first time. Assisted by two physiotherapists, one on each side, she planted her two feet on the ground and stood tall. The physios said she was putting weight on her legs, which is a good sign. She has also made strides in her arm and hand movements, neck control, and back strengthening,” reports Breaking News.

After the attack, a riot broke out in the heart of Dublin.

In connection with the stabbing incident outside the school, a man has been charged and brought before a Dublin court, reports Breaking News.

The 50-year-old Riad Bouchaker, who does not have a known residence, is charged with attempting to kill the kid and two girls.

He is also accused of assaulting the creche worker and seriously injuring her, reports Breaking News.

He is also accused of possessing and producing a 36-cm kitchen knife, as well as three charges of assault causing hurt.
