Authorities concerned as bag with computer security details for Paris 2024 Olympics has been lost or possibly stolen

A City Hall engineer misplaced a suitcase that contained a computer and two memory sticks with information concerning the 2024 Olympics in Paris; the prosecutor’s office in Paris indicated on Wednesday that the bag could have been taken, reports RTE.

Following the incident at the city’s Gare du Nord railway station late on February 26, transport police have been tasked with conducting an inquiry into theft, the agency stated in a statement.

“Although he was careful to point out that his bag contained a professional USB memory stick… it is important to specify that this stick only contained notes relating to traffic in Paris during the Olympic Games, and not on sensitive security plans,” the office said, reports RTE.

The organisers of Paris 2024 chose not to respond.

The dates of the Paris Olympics are July 26–August 11, 2018.

Approximately 30,000 police officers are anticipated to be called into duty each day during the Olympics, and 300,000 people are anticipated to see the opening ceremony on the Seine River, reports RTE.
