Harry wants British taxpayer to pay his security as US authorities say they have ‘evidence’ for arrests over Harry and Meghan car chase

After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed to have been involved in a “near-catastrophic” automobile pursuit with photographers in New York, US police determined there was sufficient evidence to detain two persons for “reckless endangerment,” a judge was told, reports RTE.

A study of the incident from last May was made public during a London High Court verdict over Prince Harry’s appeal of a decision to modify the extent of his taxpayer-funded personal security while in the country.

The duke’s action against the Home Office was dismissed by retired High Court judge Peter Lane, who cited information presented regarding the events in New York in his ruling, reports RTE.

A redacted copy of a letter from the chief of intelligence of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to the chief superintendent of royalty and specialised security, which was sent to the judge by the prince’s attorney, was included in the judgement.

Mr. Lane stated that the letter indicates that “reckless endangerment did take place on May 16, 2023” as Harry and Meghan were being driven across Manhattan, “contrary to what appears to have entered the public domain.”

In the letter, the chief of intelligence says he wants to make “aware of certain changes to the security posture that will be afforded to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in light of the security incident that took place on May 16 2023 in New York City”, reports RTE.
