Authorities confirm 7 people have died and a further 20 people are missing after boat capsizes in Budapest

A major search operation is continuing this morning after seven people were killed and a further twenty people went missing when a boat capsized on the River Danube, in Budapest, Hungary.

According to reports in Hungary, the double decker tourist boat capsized after it was struck by another vessel whilst it was moured near the Hungarian parliament building.

It is believed that as many as 20 people mostly South Korean tourists have been reported missing following the incident on Wednesday night.

Authorities say a high number of emergency personnel including divers, paramedics and military crews have been sent to the scene in order to look for those missing.

They also say that seven people have been rescued following the incident and they have been taken to hospital with hyperthermia.

It is believed that high tides and strong currents have made the search operation more difficult.

Meanwhile police have confirmed that all vessels have been ordered to stop travelling on the river.
