Backlash over RTE’s ‘McCollumgate’ continues

The national broadcaster has been forced on the defence, as public backlash over the interview with convicted drug trafficker Michaella McCollum intensifies.

The interview, conducted by a contractor working for RTE, featured a rather dolled-up Ms. McCollum, wearing a brand new blonde hairstyle and stylish clothes, pleading for atonement.

Ms. McCollum said that it (agreeing to be a drug mule) was all ‘a moment of madness’ after ‘days of partying.’ She also said that “I want to demonstrate that I’m a good person.”

RTE, while stating that the convicted drug trafficker did not get paid, has refused to say whether or not any licence fees were furnished to her family or into the McCollum fund.

Twitter was awashed with comments about the infamous interview last night, with most people expressing outrage about RTE’s choice to feature a convicted drugs mule on the screen, and applying heavy camera work on her looks.

Ms. McCollum’s partner in crime, Melissa Reid, remains locked up in Peru.
