Balbriggan Boy (15) claims he was knocked unconscious by gardai – before they find a large knife in his backpack




An investigation is underway today after gardai in the Rush/Balbriggan area of North County Dublin have been accused of knocking a 15-yr-old boy unconscious during a melee on Sunday evening.

The boy was cycling when gardai approached him to stop and question him.

He allegedly has asthma and was wearing a snood across half of his face. Gardai allegedly tackled the boy while he was on his bike and a row broke out.

Video emerged on social media of onlookers, one of whom is said to have been the boy’s sister, shouting “racist scumbags” at members of the force.

The boy was eventually arrested and brought to Balbriggan garda station after a large knife was found in his backpack by gardai.

A local told The Liberal:
“The gardai had a number of bite marks on their arms and wrists from the struggle. The young fella kept saying that the big knife was for cutting fruit, but that’s very hard to believe”.

It’s understood that the boy was released without charge. The video footage can be viewed below:
