Just as Star Wars fans the world over get set to descend en masse upon multiplexes to watch the latest instalment of the long-running sci-fi epic saga, Tourism Ireland has announced plans to launch a new Star Wars-themed marketing plan.
The new campaign, clearly designed to bank on the new film’s huge buzz and hype, is said to target fans of the franchise, focussing on social media and including a specially created page on Ireland.com, Facebook posts, and many other such features.
The campaign will aim to draw tourists from 14 different markets, including Britain, the US, Canada, Australia and several European countries. There will reportedly be a second phase starting in 2016.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, has said: “A hugely popular name like Star Wars filming here will bring the magnificent scenery of Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of millions of people around the world.”
“It’s a really effective way to reach mass audiences, helping to significantly boost awareness of the Skelligs, the South West and Ireland in general… whetting peoples’ appetites to come and visit.”
