Barry’s Tea have confirmed that it is pulling its sponsorship from an Irish Greyhound Industry event.
The announcement comes after a RTÉ Investigates Programme uncovered that as many as 6,000 greyhounds are killed each once they fail to perform on the track.
Confirming the withdrawal of sponsorship on Twitter, Barry’s Tea said: “We were saddened and horrified by the recent revelations of the RTÉ Investigates programme, which raised concerns over the treatment of dogs within the greyhound industry in Ireland.”
“On reflection, we have decided to withdraw our local sponsoship of the annual race in Curraheen Park, Cork.”
The companies decision to pull their sponsorship comes after there was widespread anger amongst the public at how the animals are treated.
