BBC news presenter Huw Edwards is in hospital after he was named by wife as star at centre of sex allegations

Newsreader Huw Edwards has identified by his wife as a BBC presenter facing a number of allegations, including paying a young man for sexually explicit images, reports Independent.

Vicky Flind said her husband suffered from severe mental health problems and was now in hospital “where he will stay for the foreseeable future”, reports Independent.

Ms Flind said the last five days had been extremely difficult for his family. “As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years. The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters,” reports Independent.

She said Edwards wanted to answer the stories when he gets better.

Minutes earlier, the Metropolitan Police had concluded that no crime had been committed, giving the corporation the go-ahead to reopen an internal investigation, reports Independent.

Edwards, 61, faces four separate claims, including paying a young man nearly £35,000 for sexually explicit photos, breaking strict house lockdown rules to meet another young man, sending a 17-year-old love messages with hearts and kisses making and sending threatening messages to the third man in his 20s he met on a dating app.
