Beggar arrested in Manchester while carrying over £500 on him

A ‘professional’ beggar was arrested in Manchester and found to be carrying over £500 on him.

The incident happened in Manchester city center when officers stopped and searched 57-year-old Ludovic Gabor. Arresting officers found that he was carrying a sizable amount of cash at the time.

The man was fined £250 after pleading guilty to a begging charge.

Officers enforced the Vagrancy Act of 1824, a piece of legislation that dates back over two centuries.

This ancient law was written as an Act for the Punishment of idle and disorderly Persons, and Rogues and Vagabonds.

The act was repealed in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but remains lawful across England
