A popular Flemish MP in Belgium has climbed atop the roof of a city hall in Antwerp to call for an end to what he refers to as the “Islamist occupation” of the city.

Filip Dewinter, who leads the nationalist Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interests) party in the Flanders region of Belgium, gave a speech on the history of Antwerp and its varies occupations saying over five centuries it was occupied “by the Romans, the Spaniards, the French, the Germans and today by Islam.”

Dewinter stressed how that the demographics of the city are being transformed with more than half” of schoolchildren in Antwerp coming from Islamic backgrounds.

Referring to the “occupation of our city (Antwerp) by Islam” the nationalist MP said, “This must come to an end”.

Belgium has a massive and rapidly growing Muslim population and some of the most dangerous, so-called “no-go-zones” in Europe with the culturally enriched Brussels suburb of Molenbeek being a hot bed of Jihadist activity including producing several of 2015 Paris terrorist attackers.

However, in Belgium, as in most Western European countries, any kind of discussion of Islam that is not totally positive and does not overtly pander to the religion and its adherents is considered taboo and provokes outrage by mainstream media pundits.
