Communities Co Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Scotland and around Ireland are left reeling following the tragic accident in Dundalk on Saturday night that claimed the lives of five young people.

Heart breaking details are emerging about the five young friends who lost their lives in a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Co. Louth over the weekend, reports The Mirror.

Chloe McGee, 23, Shay Duffy, 21, Alan McCluskey, 23, Dylan Commins, 23, and Chloe Hipson, 21, tragically died on Saturday evening when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser on the L3168. A sixth person, a male passenger in the Golf, survived with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.

The two people in the Land Cruiser were also taken to hospital, but neither suffered life-threatening injuries, reports The Mirror.

Chloe McGee, a school teacher from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, had just secured a permanent teaching role at the Ó Fiaich Institute of Further Education in Dundalk.

“I was speaking with Chloe on Friday,” Ó Fiaich principal Padraig McGovern told Morning Ireland on Monday. “She was full of fun, full of achievement, and looking forward to the weekend—and within 24 hours that all changed drastically,” reports The Mirror.

Mr. McGovern confirmed Chloe had been with the Ó Fiaich Institute for three years and had recently secured a permanent contract. “Chloe had got a permanent job and she was celebrating that,” he said. “She loved her job. She was very keen on her work and became a real part of the fabric of our school,” reports The Mirror.

“Both students and staff loved her. She went the extra mile for her students, was excellent at her subject, and was involved in everything—staff activities, new projects, anything we were developing, she was always willing to take part,” he added, reports The Mirror.

Gardaí in Dundalk are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the collision. The scene on the R3168 has been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.
