Tributes paid to woman, aged in her 70s, who died after getting into difficulty in sea




A woman in her seventies has passed away after encountering trouble while swimming in the sea in Co Wicklow Saturday afternoon.

The Coast Guard reported that it answered calls for assistance involving two individuals who were in the water at Magherabeg beach at approximately 2pm, reports RTE.

The response operation included the Greystones and Wicklow Coast Guard teams, the Dublin-based Coast Guard helicopter R116, and the Wicklow all-weather lifeboat.

Gardaí stated that the woman’s remains were retrieved from the water at around 4pm, while the second person was brought to hospital, reports RTE.

They added that the woman’s body was transported to the mortuary at St Columcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

A file will be compiled for the Coroner’s Court, reports RTE.
