
The sort of semi-automatic weapon used in the attempted assassination of US President Joe Biden’s opponent, Donald Trump, should be banned, reports RTE.
“Come with me as we remove these combat weapons from American streets. The weapon used to shoot Donald Trump was an AR-15. In his first political address since Mr. Trump was hurt in the assassination attempt last Saturday, Mr. Biden declared, “It’s time to outlaw them.”
After giving a speech at the NAACP national conference in Las Vegas, Mr. Biden resumed his campaign trail activities in the crucial state of Nevada, reports RTE.

The Biden campaign quickly stopped airing its television advertisements in the wake of the event, stopped criticising the former president verbally, and shifted its attention to a message of togetherness, reports RTE.
Earlier in the campaign, the focus was on harsh condemnation of Mr. Trump as a danger to US democracy, emphasising his refusal to acknowledge his defeat in the 2020 election and his prior convictions for felonies.
These days, it’s attempting to balance a less combative tone while maintaining a sharp contrast between the two candidates.
Mr. Biden stated that his suggestion that Donald Trump be placed in the “bullseye” in the presidential contest was incorrect, reports RTE.
When questioned if his language against the recently confirmed Republican nominee had gone too far, Mr. Biden told NBC, “It was a mistake to use the word.”
“I wanted you to pay attention to him and what he’s doing. Mr. Biden stated, “Pay attention to his plans and the quantity of lies he spoke throughout the discussion.
The attempt on Mr. Trump’s life, which resulted in a minor cut to one ear, startled a country that was already extremely divided in the lead-up to the November election.
