White House international climate chief John Kerry has warned Russia not to lose sight of the heightened need to tackle climate change as it targets Ukraine.
Kerry, a former foreign secretary, told BBC News earlier this week it was important that Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders continue to work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
āI hope diplomacy will win ā¦ but equally importantly, youāre going to lose peopleās focus, youāre going to lose, certainly big country attention,ā Mr. Kerry said. āI think hopefully, President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of ā¦ frozen land. Now itās thawing and his infrastructure is at risk, and the people of Russia are at risk.ā
