The Army Bomb Disposal team was called to a situation in Ballymun, North Dublin, last night.
Gardai reported finding an improvised explosive device (IED) at a building site in Poppintree, Ballymun.
A number of buildings in the vicinity were evacuated and some traffic restrictions were imposed for public safety.
The item was removed to a military location for further testing and was found to be viable.
The scene of the incident was declared safe at around 8:30pm last night.
