Boris Johnson confirms that UK is entering ‘Phase 2’ of its lockdown unwinding on June 1st

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the UK is ‘now in a position’ to move into phase two of Covid-19 restrictions. The UK government’s 50-page coronavirus exit strategy will kick in from June 1st.

Johnson said that schools will reopen from next Monday in a ‘phased’ manner.

Year One and Year Six will be the first to return on June 1st, with secondary schools providing ‘some contact’ for Year 10 and 12 students from June 15th.

Finally, non-essential shops such as clothing stores should be allowed to reopen. Cultural and sporting events are set to take place behind closed doors, according to the government documents. Families may also be able to extend their ‘social bubble’ and may be able to mix with other households, but that will not be known until next week.
