Boris Johnson remains resolute and insists UK will leave EU on Halloween, deal or no deal

UK Prime Minister has definitely rejected suggestions that Britain’s departure from EU can must be delayed until a trade and travel agreement with the bloc is agreed.

Prime Minister Johnson also hit out at the UK Supreme Court which ruled that the embattled leader’s process of proroguing of parliament was unlawful.

The British parliament has passed a law blocking a no-deal Brexit however, as Prime Minister Johnson noted in an interview on Tuesday, while the UK remains in the EU, EU law has primacy over British law.

Therefore, under article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which was triggered by former PM Teresa May, the UK must leave the EU on October 31st, at which time EU law will not long effect the UK but by that time it will have been too late to delay Brexit.

PM Johnson has said that he will continue to seek a new deal with the EU, one that does include the Irish backstop, designed to stop border checks on the Island of Ireland but the EU leadership remains steadfast in its stance that the deal agreed under Teresa May cannot be renegotiated.

At present, a no-deal Brexit looks most likely, and the Irish government have been forced to admit what EU officials have been saying for some time, that should a no-deal Brexit come about, the Republic of Ireland will be obliged to enforce a border on the Island of Ireland.
