People living in counties Kildare, Offaly and Laois have been warned to be on alert following a recent spike in Covid-19 cases.
Speaking at the NPHET briefing Dr Ronan Glynn, called on the general public living in these areas to maintain social distancing and proper hygiene procedures in order to stem the potential spread of the virus.
Although Dr Glynn said almost half of the cases in the areas can attributed to outbreaks, he did advise the public to be extra vigilant.
Dr Glynn’s warning comes after figures released on Thursday found that almost half of the confirmed cases in the Republic of Ireland over the past fortnight occurred in those counties alone.
