Brave Co Meath woman tells other victims of coercive control that “you’re not alone”

The 22-year-old victim of the man who was convicted today of “appalling” control over her said she wanted other victims to stand up for themselves and know they are not alone, reports RTE.

Jack Boles attacked Jodie Duggan every week, pulling her hair, hitting her head, cursing and punching her in the face.

Judge Orla Crowe sentenced him to two years’ probation at Trim Circuit Court for one count of forced control and five counts of assaulting his then-partner at two addresses in Ratoath, Co. Meath between 1 January 2019 and 5 April 2019, reports RTE.

However, the state successfully appealed the leniency, and Bowles was re-sentenced to one year in prison at the Court of Appeals.

Judge John Edwards said the court took into account the nature and frequency of the attacks, which he said caused “egregious” mental and emotional abuse to the victim.

After the audition, Ms Duggan described it as “a bitter-sweet moment that was very overwhelming”.

“I wanted to do it not for myself but to help other girls as well, my own age and other women, just to know that you’re not alone and to stand up for yourself,” Ms Duggan said, reports RTE.
