A 13-yr-old boy from Poole, UK has been arrested this morning following a serious road traffic collision involving an e-bike and a pedestrian.
The incident took place at approximately 3:50 p.m. on January 26, on Herbert Avenue near its junction with Manor Avenue.
The rider of the e-bike struck a pregnant woman in her 30s, at high speed, who was walking in the area. The rider failed to stop at the scene and left immediately after the collision, prompting a hit-and-run investigation by Dorset Police. The injured woman was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Tragically, the woman later gave birth, and her newborn baby remains in hospital in a serious condition as a result of complications linked to the crash. Police have not released further details about the extent of the mother’s injuries or the precise medical impact on the child.
Officers from the Roads Policing Team arrested the teenage boy on suspicion of a driving-related offence. He is currently being held in police custody while inquiries continue. Police Sergeant Dan Yates confirmed the arrest and described the investigation as ongoing. He thanked members of the public who have already come forward with information and urged anyone with additional details, who has not yet spoken to officers, to contact Dorset Police.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about e-bike safety and responsibility on public roads, particularly in residential areas. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses to help establish the full circumstances of the collision.
