Gardai arrest two young men who were racing their cars on busy road

Two men who were racing their cars on a busy road in Co Donegal have been arrested and are due to appear before the courts.

The pair were detected travelling at excessive speeds on a 60km/h road in Letterkenny on Sunday night, reports Breaking News.

They were intercepted by gardaí who were on patrol as part of a Bank Holiday road safety operation across the county.

The drivers were stopped on the four-lane main approach road into Letterkenny town centre, reports Breaking News.

A Garda spokesperson said “As part of our Road Safety and Traffic Enforcement Campaign over the weekend, Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were conducting patrols last night when they observed two vehicles racing each other at high speeds on the Four Lane Road (N56) in Letterkenny,

“Both vehicles were stopped. The drivers were arrested and charged to appear in court.”

Several motorists were detected across Donegal over the Bank Holiday weekend, including one driver travelling at 146km/h in a 100km/h zone and another clocked at 98km/h in a 60km/h zone, reports Breaking News.

A number of other drivers were also found to be driving while under the influence of cocaine and cannabis.

All of those involved were arrested and will appear before future sittings of the local court, reports Breaking News.
