An inmate broke out of his cell and has made his way on to a roof at Cloverhill prison.
Gardai and specicially trained hostage negotiators have been called in and are currently at the facility where they are attempting to convince the man to come down from the building without doing anything stupid.
A prison spokesman was quoted as saying:
“We have a situation where there is a prisoner on a roof in Cloverhill Prison. Trained negotiators are on site at the moment.”
The prison is said to be early 40s, from Finglas, County Dublin and “extremely dangerous”. He is one of 431 at the medium security prison.
