It’s a tough day at the polls for Regina Doherty. It looks like she won’t be able to hang on to her seat and will join the number of TDs who haven’t managed to be re-elected.
During the past election campaign, Doherty has been locked in a competition with her party colleague Helen McEntee and at the moment it looks as if McEntee is going to be the only Fine Gael politician making it back in the constituency.
Doherty has acted as Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection but if the current situation turns out to be correct, then she will have no choice but to hand back her seat.
