Ireland experiences extremely wet and breezy conditions today, with rain spreading northwestward across the country and reaching all areas by mid-afternoon. The heaviest rainfall occurs in the southeast and east, where persistent and intense downpours lead to a high likelihood of localised and river flooding. Temperatures reach highs of 5 to 10 degrees Celsius under fresh easterly winds that strengthen to strong or gale force along the east coast.
Met Éireann issues several weather warnings due to the heavy rain falling on already saturated ground, combined with elevated river levels and high tides. Status Orange rain warnings apply to counties including Dublin, Wicklow, and Waterford, while Status Yellow warnings cover additional areas such as Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Wexford, Monaghan, and Tipperary. Authorities urge vigilance amid difficult travel conditions and flood risks, particularly in Leinster and the southeast.
County Louth has now been added to the list since lunchtime.
The outlook remains extremely unsettled in the coming days.
