Gardai are seeking witnesses after the body of a woman in her 40s was discovered in Killarney, County Kerry.

Officers suspect she was killed through the use of physical force.

A family member found her body at her home on the Muckross Road around midday and immediately raised the alarm. She was declared dead at the scene.

A senior detective is now leading the inquiry, supported by a dedicated family liaison officer. The Garda Technical Bureau team from Dublin is travelling to the location, which has been cordoned off.

While investigators are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to shape the next steps, they have already begun mobilising the full resources of a murder investigation. The examination is scheduled to take place at University Hospital Kerry.

An incident room has been set up at Killarney Garda Station.

Gardaí are urging anyone who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney from yesterday evening through to this afternoon — particularly those with doorbell, dashcam, or other footage — to come forward with it.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 66-61-11, or any Garda station.
